Front Ensemble - 1-9 (both weeks)
The weather forecast especially for the first week of camp is looking very summer-like. Forecast highs are in the high 90s every day with no rain in the forecast (that part is good!) Please hydrate properly, and start now! Water and sports drinks are key. Sugary liquids, caffeinated beverages, and darker colored drinks are counter-productive. If you feel the need to use the restroom, it a good sign that you've hydrated properly.
Additionally, with the sunny weather comes the need to properly care for yourself. Apply sunscreen liberally and regularly, and do so BEFORE you come to camp each day, but bring it to reapply throughout the day.
Staying healthy over the course of these two weeks is essential to several aspects. First, you will enjoy your experience more, and second, you will be far more productive. We will take adequate and appropriate breaks to ensure you can stay hydrated, and to give you rest during the wonderful weather we will be seeing.
Eat light and healthy breakfasts every day, and do not skip the meals!
What should I bring to camp?
Items that are essential to band camp include:
§ Water Jugs (filled each and every day, but refilled during the day as well)
§ 3-ring binders (for drill, music, etc)
§ Pencils (for your drill books and to mark music)
§ Sunscreen (to reapply during the day!)
§ Hats/Sunglasses (for your comfort!)
§ Proper clothing (NO JEANS, and light colors)
§ Proper footwear (no sandals, no Converse type shoes... You need athletic shoes!)
§ A good healthy lunch (we will eat in the hallway outside the band room)
§ Snacks (granola, or other healthy snacks if you choose)
§ A good attitude (goes a long way!!!!)
The band room will open around 7:15 each morning. Please do not plan to arrive earlier than that!
Band Camp can be quite an exhausting few weeks, but the more we accomplish, the more we will reap the rewards going into our regular season rehearsals. If you have questions about camp, your best resource is your section leader. They will be happy to share their experiences about band camp!
See you Monday morning!
