Summerfest - Saturday, 8/6
Summerfest is this coming Saturday. Unlike past years, this is a very toned down event. It is a chance for the Elementary and Middle School Summer Bands to perform, followed by a performance by the Marching Bulldogs. Report time is 11:00 AM at the HS Band Room. Please note we have limited access to the building due to summer hours still being in effect. The performance begins at 12:00, outside the HS Commons. Parents and family are encouraged to bring folding chairs for the performances. Our anticipation is the event will be completed by 1:00. Dress is maroon band shirts and khaki shorts, just like the Memorial Day Parades. If you only have a Middle School maroon shirt, that is acceptable as well. We will perform a good chunk of the marching band show for this event, in a standstill fashion.
Bulldog Band Brawl Ad Update
Advertising for the Bulldog Band Brawl is going extremely well, especially this year. We have over $1500 in advertising in, with our goal still being to reach $5000 again, if not more this year. Current standings are as follows:
§ 7th Place - Drumline - $0.00 per member
§ 6th Place - Colorguard - $3.89 per member
§ 5th Place - Staff - $7.50 per member
§ 4th Place - Flutes/Clarinets - $19.00 per member
§ 3rd Place - Brass - $19.50 per member
§ 2nd Place - Front Ensemble - $61.67 per member
§ 1st Place - Saxes - $143.00 per member
The goal for this is that everyone attempt to contact a minimum of TWO businesses to see if they will sponsor our program. This is one of our major funding portions for the Bulldog Band Brawl, and is a great way to see our program continue to thrive like it has been.
As mentioned in the past, if you are going to miss an event, or you are out sick from an event, you must fill out the Absentee Form. Do not assume talking to me or emailing me will suffice. Due to the sheer volume of email that comes through my inbox on a given day, it is far easier to keep this info in one central location. Please refer to the Band Handbook you received several weeks back for any questions regarding the attendance policies. The link for this form can be found right on the Member's Only page.
We will be measuring for Band Shoes during lunch this Friday to ensure the order goes in to the company with time to spare. If you are a new member, you should have paid for a pair of band shoes. If you are a returning member, please check your band shoes between now and Friday to ensure they still fit properly. If you need to order a new pair, they are $33.
I know it took a few days to get used to, but its safe to say the new dot books are absolutely working they way we intending. Please log in to the Member's Only section of the Marching Band page to get your drill pages, and look at the sample page in the Dot Book for an example of how your pages should look. The more detail you put on the pages, the easier they will be to use and the more beneficial they will be as the season progresses. For Monday, you should have detail for all pages you have from 0-23A. If you are unsure if you are doing things right, your section leaders are a great resources for questions. Contact them for any help as they are more than willing!
Graham Road Closure - 8/1-8/5
Just an FYI for those folks who use Graham Road to reach the High School: due to paving, the road will be closed all this coming week. Please plan accordingly so you are not late to band due to this.
Rest up tomorrow everyone, and see you bright and early Monday morning for another great week of work. Keep this pace up and great things will come our way this season!
